How is Hospice of Cincinnati Different?

Many people have a sense of what hospice care is – a focus on quality of life rather than curative measures. But the more important question is “Who is Hospice of Cincinnati?”

We are not-for-profit. We are not bound by for-profit directives focused primarily on bottom line financial returns. Instead, we return any excess operating revenues versus operating costs right back to our community by enriching and expanding programs or by offering new services. We go beyond the basics of hospice care to produce the highest quality service available to patients, families and our community.

We are mission-focused. Our non-profit status enables us to more clearly focus on our mission to provide the highest quality compassionate, comfort-oriented and personalized end-of-life care to all who need it, regardless of ability to pay. This includes a commitment to providing non-reimbursable services such as charity care, holistic health services and extensive bereavement support.

We are experienced. In 2007, we celebrated 30 years of caring for our community. Along the way, we have developed core competencies that can be applied in any community. So whether patients need inpatient care, home care or other options, we offer a consistent level of quality and compassionate care no matter the setting.

We are leading edge. Our innovative programming has earned attention locally and nationally. HOC continues to be tapped by a variety of organizations for counsel on hospice care and grief-related issues. This is a tribute to our growing reputation as a leader within the nationwide hospice movement.

We are supportive. We offer bereavement support to the entire community, including children, through Fernside, our nationally-renowned children’s bereavement program. In addition, our robust volunteer program features about 600 volunteers who give nearly 40,000 hours each year.

We are educators. We believe education plays a significant role in our community’s opportunity to gain the most from hospice care. That’s why we have programs that educate future physicians and nurses. We also offer programs and partnerships that help others, especially caregivers, understand the benefits of hospice care.

It’s the many parts of our organization working together in support of our mission that position HOC as the community end-of-life resource. We will continue to go beyond the basics of hospice care, pursuing excellence as we work to fulfill the growing and continually evolving needs of our community. We will continue to offer the most comprehensive services available in Greater Cincinnati. And our mission will continue to guide us as we move forward through the next 30 years and beyond.
